May is National Fitness Month, and Bloomfield Township Senior Services wants Township residents to take advantage of its state-of-the-art senior center designed for active adults. This includes a warm water pool, indoor walking track, fitness studio, fitness equipment, and multipurpose spaces for enrichment and social programs.

Exercise is vital for older adults as it helps maintain mobility, strength, and overall health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Regular physical activity also supports mental well-being, improving mood and cognitive function, which enhances quality of life and independence.

Township Senior Services Director Christine Tvaroha shares, “Exercise activates powerful changes in the brain, supporting memory, focus, and long-term brain health.”

Currently, Senior Services offers over 60 group fitness classes, with eligibility starting at age 50. Additionally, residents with some Health Alliance Plans and SilverSneakers memberships may set up complimentary use of the fitness equipment and track. Please call 248-723-3500 for more details.

Please visit Township Senior Services to learn more about all of these programs, along with dates and times. Township residents can now register for classes and events at My Active Center. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Township Senior Services (BTSS) offers lifelong learning and interactive opportunities for residents age 50 and over to stimulate the mind and the body. These include a wide variety of fitness classes, both land and aquatic; fitness equipment, enrichment opportunities; and day trips. BTSS fosters a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
